Do You Love to Gossip? Learn How to Stop It

Do You Love to Gossip? Learn How to Stop It

Don't you just love to gossip? For some reason it is very interesting and engaging to talk about other people's lives. But then you also know that gossip is entirely wrong. It is completely unproductive and destructive. A lot of relationships have been severed just because of rumors.

How do you stop yourself from gossiping? Consider the following tips:

1. Keep yourself busy. Gossip often happens when you have nothing else better to do. You grab the mobile phone and talk about your other friends with someone. You go online and chat.

One of the best ways therefore to minimize being involved in rumors is to be very productive. When you have a lot of things to do, you won't have more time for senseless things. Moreover, these activities can occupy your mind.

2. Consider your self-interests first. Before you think of others, think about yourself. Usually, you gossip about others simply because you couldn't find something interesting about your own life. Perhaps it's high time you pursue a hobby, take up a sport, or go back to school. Travel or spend more time doing missions and volunteer work. These activities boost self-awareness and self-esteem. Most of all, they inspire you to find more good things in life.

3. Cut back on your sources of gossip. Stop reading your friends' blogs, watching television shows, reading tabloids and gossip magazines, or even communicating with friends who just love to gossip. Unless you remove the sources, you'll find it extremely hard to stop the bad habit.

4. Ignore the gossip. Some of your friends may volunteer juicy stories, whether you want to hear them or not. The best course of action is to just ignore it. Listen but don't give any reaction or side comment. In fact, you can change the subject. Come up with a whole new topic to discuss.

5. Be brutally honest. If you don't like gossips, then you better say so. If your friends start sharing, tell them you're not interested or not into it. Some of them may feel offended, but saying no is a good way of letting them know what they're doing is extremely wrong.

6. Say something nice. Gossips are often negative. Your friend Mary may talk about Shirley's arrogance over her new promotion. Rather than agreeing, you can say that she's truly a hard worker to achieve that.

7. Walk away. When you can't handle the heat, stay away from it. If you start hearing people talking about the others, walk away. You can come up with some excuse, but make sure you can leave as soon as possible.

8. Get rid of your insecurities. Gossip often stems from insecurities, jealousy, and envy. If you can learn to avoid all of them, you can also stop talking about other people's lives. You can boost your confidence with subliminal messages or affirmations. You may say

There are a lot of good things about me that I truly appreciate.

I am a blessing to others.

I am a content person.
